Launch Word on desktop (Windows or Mac). The web version of Word also supports add-ins.
Click Insert > Get Add-ins (or Home > Add-ins on newer versions).
In the Office Add-ins store, search for "Claude" or "Anthropic" and click Add.
Sign in with your Anthropic account. You need a Claude Pro ($20/mo), Max, Team, or Enterprise plan.
The Claude sidebar appears on the right side of Word. Select text and ask Claude to edit, summarize, or analyze it.

Highlight the specific section you want Claude to work on. This gives Claude precise context and ensures edits are applied to the right section using tracked changes.
